Thank you to our guest contributer, Derek Darcy (aka Damian D. Darcy), for his hearfelt tribute to our 9/11 civil service heroes. Visit Derek’s website for the full story. Photo used with permission.
The 9/11 Tribute Truck began as a moving memorial to those who lost their lives on 9/11/01. It quickly became something even greater than the creator could have imagined. This truck became a memorial to those lost, and a tribute to those who still proudly serve the communities around them. This truck has become a daily reminder of the sacrifices that our public services (police, fire, EMS & military) make every day to ensure that we are safe, a true piece of artwork paying respect to the men and women who bravely enter harm’s path to save us in our greatest time of need.
There are countless quotes about heroes. “Heroes Rush in while every one else rushes out.” “Our day begins when yours is about to end.” But my favorite quote is “A hero is an ordinary individual who finds the strength to perservere and endure in spite of overwhelming obstacles.”
This quote also holds true of the creator of the 9/11 Tribute Truck, a former EMT Fire Rescure Technician from NYC. He was there when the towers fell and lost many colleagues and friends, and had to find the strength to persevere and overcome many challenges to create this beautiful tribute to our civil servants.
May this be a constant reminder to all to thank our fellow men and women who protect us and never forget their sacrifices.
