about us

Are you a small business owner on the Plateau who requires a paper-based or online solution but you don’t have office support staff? Think Outside the Box Ink  for independent and local freelance writing services tailored to your unique business needs.

Our philosophy is that experience is the best teacher and paper is a canvas. Allow us to help you elevate your idea from the drawing board up through to project plan, to build out your projects, promote them, or bring them full-circle with an evaluation process. We invite you to peruse our writing services, deliverables and portfolio.

In addition to providing contracted writing solutions for small businesses, NGOs and educators, OTBI celebrates the muses by showcasing unconventional writing and artistry in partnership with a small circle of freelance artists.

Natalie Bumgarner, Creative Director

“Pick a verb. Mix it with a pound of energy, an ounce of creativity and a dash of adventure; flambee.”

Natalie is a freelance writer from Salt Lake City who lives in Enumclaw, Washington. She can be found in obscure locations playing with gear and the limitless bounty of the written word. Since 2006 she has served a variety of small business partners as a freelance writer in diverse industries in Washington, Utah, California and Hawaii. She pens her work as Outside the Box Ink  to fuse the creative opportunities of content area, project and perspective in order to personalize writing deliverables to unique client needs.

Natalie’s business writing is seasoned with a background in process analysis, technical writing, and program development/evaluation. An enthusiast of artistic expression, her creative writing slant is rooted in extensive study of philosophy, psychology and spirituality. She extends her artistic focus on aspects of the existential dilemma through digital design/mixed media and welcomes local artists to join the OTBI Community and feature their artistry online, for the love of ink not profit.

J. Dennis O’Coyne, Defiant Artist

“The doors of creativity open only after one’s heart feels the pain of oppression.”

An artist of multiple mediums for over 30 years, Dennis launched his career in Seattle with landscapes of Eastern Washington and drawings of Pike Place Market. Many of his works and collections have been purchased privately and commercially.  His studies at the University of Washington emphasized printmaking, under the tutelage of Professor Glen Alps. Between 1973-75 Dennis displayed his work at festivals, fund raisers, galleries and museums all around the Seattle Metropolitan Area, and in 1974 was awarded for his drawing, “Market.” His current focus is industrial art, architecture, harbor landscapes, animals and cowboys. His “Chicks on Sticks” series is currently being showcased, and the image (“Dixie”) is being used to raise funds for Ski Patrol at Mission Ridge and Telluride Resorts. A portion of the proceeds are donated to the Susan G. Komen Foundation. View his Defiant Art Gallery.
